Through our study of Ibn Ṭufayl’s Ḥayy Ibn Yakẓān we will try to reveal that this treatise deals in fact with two main problems. One is presented explicitly and directly, and the other is dealt with implicitly and perhaps unintentionally. The first, through which Ibn Tufail is involved in a traditional philosophical perspective, is related to the quest of truth, and the second represents a concern, despite being central to the Islamic intellectual and cultural framework, is not clearly disclosed and is mainly related to the issue of communication. Meanwhile we will undertake to reveal some of the milestone of Ibn Ṭufayl’s intellectual formation, with the assumption that his treatise may be a sort of autobiography.
