ابن عربي قارئا ابن قسي
Résumé
Ibn Arabī wrote a commentary on the book Šarḥ ḫalʿ al-naʿlayn (The Removal of the Sandals) by Ibn Qasī, not in the perspective of mediating between Ibn Qasī and his readers, as he did not explain what can help in reformulating the ideas of the book in simple ways that would bring meaning to the reader nor did he works on interpretation to disclose new meanings and show how the author’s words can bear multiple interpretative connotations. On the contrary, Ibn Arabī invokes the text of Ibn Qasī declaring his innocence of what is contained in the book The Removal of the Sandals of irregularities, and declaring that Ibn Qasī's words were not successful in saying things as they are, but rather presented them contrary to their essence. On this basis, Ibn Qasī's problem is, in the view of Ibn Arabī, "a misunderstanding of things" and expressing them in a wrong way. It seems that the poetic and rhetorical aspects of Ibn Qasī’s book were behind many of the harsh criticism directed by Ibn Arabī, and it is a criticism focused mainly on its interpretative implications in terms of their limits and the freedom of the Sufis to adopt them.
Seeking the rightview is what will motivate Ibn Arabī to read Ibn Qasī, and the goal of the commentary will be to warn against the mistakes more than to celebrate the text.
