Résumé
Management of Argan heritage in the Haha area and valorization issues
The argan tree is widespread in the Haha area. It is considered a forest-fruit tree,
fodder and endemic at the global level, which has made Morocco a real reservoir of
this kind of trees. This product, regarded as terroir, carries a great cultural and
biological diversity. It reflects the identity of the territory, and its development
constitutes an asset and an opportunity for society.
Thus, new social organizations such as cooperatives have emerged to promote the
Argan tree. Accordingly, the cooperative sector finds its place in the process of
socio-economic and sustainable development of the Haha zone.
This article aims, on the one hand, to identify the main spatial, economic, social,
environmental and heritage dimensions of the argan tree, and, on the other hand, to
present the current situation of the argan cooperatives and to highlight the roles that
these cooperatives play in sustainable territorial development.
This article is based on bibliographical research, as well as on the field surveys and
interviews we conducted with local stakeholders, including members and employees
of argan cooperatives.
