Climate variability, change and impact in southern Morocco

This special issue, titled Climate Variability, Change and Impact in Southern Morocco: Evidence and Understanding, explores the critical challenges threatening Morocco's water security, focusing on the Souss-Massa region. Conducted under the CHARISMA project and supported by the Hassan II Academy of Science and Technology, it aligns with ongoing research at University Ibn Zohr and University Mohammed VI Polytechnic. The issue addresses the impacts of natural climate variability, prolonged droughts, extreme events like floods, and human-induced stressors, including pollution and agricultural practices. Through 11 multidisciplinary chapters, it integrates paleoclimate studies, structural geology, hydrogeology, hydrological modeling, and water chemistry to propose strategies for mitigating these challenges.
