Determinants of teenage pregnancy in the city of Mbujimayi - Democratic Republic CONGO

Résumé


Abstract This study aims to analyze the determinants of teenage pregnancy in the city of Mbujimayi, Democratic Republic of Congo.

This is a case - control study of a sample of 106 pregnant adolescents (cases) and 212 controls, totaling 318 adolescent girls using a questionnaire.

After logistic regression, the following variables showed a significant association (p <0.05): the lack of sex education at school, the source of income of adolescent girls, the failure of their leaders to meet their needs, and the fact that to be married for the first time.

Thus, we recommend that the Reproductive Health Program organize adolescent pregnancy monitoring by providing sufficient psycho-social and medical support, provide adolescents with a set of services that are sensitive and confidential: comprehensive sexuality education Sexual and reproductive health, including contraception and the prevention and treatment of STIs and HIV, will significantly reduce this phenomenon.
