Management of biomedical waste in the maternity of the city of mbujimayi / Democratic Republic of Congo

Résumé


This work aims to analyze the management of biomedical waste in maternity wards in the city of Mbujimayi in Democratic Republic (DR) of Congo. For this study, we chose the method of investigation by questionnaire and observation.

Only 10.4% of the respondents ensure the separation of biomedical waste according to the norms, 46.9% say they wear the protection material sometimes to handle the waste and 10.1% of these respondents disinfect the equipment used to transport the waste. waste. With regard to the sorting of waste produced according to the type 88.2% of the maternities, do not sort the biomedical waste, but only 11.8% of these maternities deal with this sorting according to the type.

The Waste experiencing very increasing production in all countries and their dangers are increasing in view of their nature and the quantity produced. Proper management for proper waste disposal minimizes risks to health and the environment. Such management is rare and represents a high cost, which increases the subsequent problems in developing countries.
