The issue of regional disparities is a central theme of public policies, social policies and debates on equitable development. In Morocco, the evolution of disparities between the regions of the country suggests that development gaps are widening, over time, between these regions. This work then analyzes the regional disparities in Morocco and studies the possibility of catching up through a modeling of the convergence process. Our objective in dealing with the dynamics of convergence between the different national regions over the period 2003-2013 and based on spatial econometrics is on the one hand to determine and to quantify the spatial effects in the estimation of the β-Convergence of other share. The results show that the absolute convergence assumption is rejected, and that regional GDP per capita growth is described by a conditional convergence process. Thus, the growth rate of GDP per capita is a decreasing function of the initial income and subsequently the existence of conditional convergence. |
