The Economic Impact of Pandemics:Lessons to Learn from

Abstract

This paper surveys the pandemics’ impact on economies during the last century. Several economies have suffered from sanitary crisis due to the spread of viruses such as the Spanish flu, the H1N1 influenza, and the Ebola outbreak. The impact of pandemics on different industries is discussed along with the estimated costs reported by some countries. Morocco is facing challenging hurdles to overcomethe COVID-19 pandemic. On the bright side, some key lessons display the takeaways of facing a pandemic. Of the major recommendations, expanding research and investing in the healthcare system need to be urgently addressed to be better prepared for the future.
