4. Description Abstract

Farmers of Figuig find it difficult to increase their date palm production through the use of offshoot regeneration. This is particularly true of the Aziza Bouzid variety which has a regeneration rate of only 10%. A study of three factors including 1) transplantation season 2) date palm variety 3) indoleacetic acid (AIA) concentration revealed the conditions under which offshoot regeneration is most successful. The results showed that the hottest months (April through July) are the most favourable for offshoots of the Aziza Bouzid, Assianes, Boufegous Gharas and Boufgouses varieties. In addition, AIA treatment has remarkably improved the rates of offshoot regeneration. This is particularly true of the Aziza Bouzid variety which demonstrates a regeneration rate of 86% under AIA concentration: 150 ppm in summer season.
