Résumé

Summary

Mali's wetlands are facing a multitude of threats, which are causing the disappearance or near-extinction of some of them and an imminent threat to others. These ecosystems provide a range of invaluable services to riparian communities and the general population, yet they remain under threat. This article presents an analysis of the current status of Mali's wetlands, with a focus on the nature and extent of the threats they are facing. Furthermore, the article considers the potential future of these ecosystems, taking into account projected climate changes. In order to achieve this, the article draws on existing literature. The results indicate that, in the absence of a change in climate trends, climate change will have a negative impact on the availability of water in Mali's wetlands, leading to changes in water levels, flows and quality in these ecosystems. This will have considerable implications for biodiversity. Furthermore, the use of wetlands for livelihoods is expected to increase as the effects of climate change become more evident.
