Efficient syntheses of cyclic imides were synthesized by treating amic acids with thionyl chloride in dry ethanol in refluxing. The structure of all synthesized compounds has been proven by using spectral methods such as IR, 1H-NMR. The results confirmed that the amic acids derivatives of succinic, maleic and phthalic anhydrides reacted with thionyl chloride to form the desired imides in high yields.
