Abstract

The focus of the present study was to extract essential oil from Basil (Ocimum basilicum L. specie of Lamiaceae) and to determine the chemical composition of this oil extracted. Basil has collected in the region of Ben Sliman in Morocco and essential oil have been extracted by hydrodistillation and analyzed by gaz chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. The results of chemical composition of Ocimum basilicum L. essential oil show that essential oil obtained is rich in compounds which are responsible for biological activities, particularly: Eugenol (42.74%), Linalool (20.54%) and Eucalyptol (15.27%).
