Abstract

This paper provides a revision of the traditional analyses of some of the syntactic constructions of Standard Arabic. It begins by presenting the traditional accounts of these constructions, and then provides a critique of their particulars in light of recent discoveries in the field. It then provides new accounts, ones that take into consideration new facts as well as recent findings in the syntax of Arabic, with the purpose of including these accounts in the school curricula of Arabic. The revised constructions are the so-called nominal sentence, the syntax of ʔinna-and-sisters, kāna-and-sisters, and ð̣anna-and-sisters, as well as the nature of the active participle and its syntax.
