Résumé

The question of which exchange rate regime to adopt according to the level of institutional quality of the economies has received much less attention, especially with regard to the link between institutional quality and optimal monetary regimes. The objective of this paper is to analyse the impact of institutional quality on the choice of exchange rate regime in ECOWAS countries. To achieve this, we used the binary logistic regression method. Using a study period from 1990 to 2017 and data from the World Bank and the World Gouvernance Indicators, it is found that better institutional quality increases the likelihood of ECOWAS countries adopting a flexible exchange rate regime and decreases the probability of adopting a fixed exchange rate regime.
