The link between renewable energy and economic growth has been widely explored by researchers. However, the role that institutional quality can play in moderating the impact of the energy transition on economic growth, particularly in African countries, has been ignored. Therefore, in order to fill this gap in the literature, this paper examines, using the RWLS estimation method, the moderatin grole of institutional quality in the effect of renew able energy consumption on economic growth in Africa, using panel data from 35 African countries over 11 years from 2005 to 2015. The results reveal the negative impact of renew able energy consumption on economic growth in African countries, and that indicators of good governance indicating institutional quality positively moderate the effect of renewable energy consumption on economic growth in Africa.
