LEADERSHIP STYLES AND PROJECT SUCCESS
A NARRATIVE REVIEW OF LEADERSHIP IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Résumé
This research article explores the critical influence of different leadership styles on project success across various organizational contexts, with a particular focus on the concept of leadership adaptability. By conducting a narrative review of peer-reviewed articles sourced from the ScienceDirect database, this study systematically examines how leadership styles such as transactional, transformational, inclusive, contingent reward, and authentic leadership affect project outcomes. The review highlights the importance of a project manager’s ability to adapt their leadership approach to the unique demands of each project, underscoring that flexibility in leadership is essential for navigating the complexities of modern project management. The findings suggest that the effectiveness of any given leadership style is significantly moderated by factors such as project type, team dynamics, and organizational culture. However, the review also acknowledges limitations, including the potential exclusion of relevant studies due to the focus on specific databases and search terms. This article contributes valuable insights into the pivotal role of leadership adaptability, offering practical recommendations for project managers to enhance their leadership strategies and improve project success rates. Future research should further explore the interplay between leadership styles and project contexts, particularly in diverse cultural settings and industries.
