Levallois, so what? From the technical system to the production objectives: new data on the lithic technical equipment of the Rhafas cave, layers 3 and 4 (Morocco)

Résumé

The in-depth systemic study of the lithic industry of the Rhafas cave, layers 3 and 4, (Morocco), makes it possible to go beyond the classical debates on the composition of lithic series from the Middle Stone Age to the Maghreb. The aim is the precise identification of the technical and morpho-functional objectives. The comparison of these objectives with the properties of the raw materials makes it possible to address the economic choices, the deviations from the standard and the limits of the acceptance of petrographic constraints within the technical system.
