The principal aim of this article is to provide architectural solutions for creating a modern bus station in Dschang, Cameroon, that is not only functional and sustainable, but also a place that reflects the cultural identity of the region and fosters a sense of belonging among its inhabitants. The state of play at the Dschang bus station reveals the precariousness of its infrastructure and the dissatisfaction of its users. As a result, the proposed model has three sources of inspiration, namely the bus, the ‘Tǝŋ’ (feather-crowned hat) and the ‘Ndɔŋ efɔŋ’ (ox horn). Taken together, the latter two, with their strong connotations of notability and conviviality, express the station's welcoming and prestigious character. With its expressive architecture based on a compact layout, free-flowing traffic, separation of tracks, living and rest areas, use of renewable energy, water recycling, accessibility for PRMs and consideration of safety measures, this project offers numerous environmental, social and economic benefits. These include reducing greenhouse gas emissions, creating local jobs and improving the quality of life for users and local residents. Ultimately, the sustainable redevelopment of the Dschang bus station into a dynamic hub is an important step towards a more sustainable future for the city and its residents.
