Purpose: People with epilepsy suffer from stigmatization and social marginalization associated with significant socioeconomic impact. The evaluation of the socio-cultural aspects of epilepsy is crucial. Objectives: The study aimed to evaluate the knowledge of Moroccan people about epilepsy and their attitudes towards persons with epilepsy and the relation between these two parameters. In addition, we assess the potential factors influencing respondents’ knowledge about epilepsy and their attitudes towards persons with epilepsy. Material and Methods: We collected data using a questionnaire including 20 questions inspired from the Attitudes Toward Persons with Epilepsy” (ATPE) test. These assessments test respondents' knowledge about epilepsy and their attitudes towards persons with epilepsy. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS software 17 version. We used descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, Student's test, and multivariate logistic regression. A p-value of < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: The bivariate analysis revealed that 50, 4% of participants had poor score knowledge about epilepsy with a high prevalence (24.5%) of negative attitudes towards persons with epilepsy. This analysis also showed a significant positive association between mean knowledge and mean attitudes towards persons with epilepsy. Discussion and conclusion: Residence, level of education, and monthly income were the most influential factors. The wealthiest, most educated, and urban dwellers have the highest knowledge scores about epilepsy and positive attitudes towards persons with epilepsy.
