Energy Transition and Integration of African Atlantic Ports into International Trade
Abstract
This article examines the evolving relationship between energy transition, port competitiveness, and international trade integration in the context of African Atlantic ports. These ports, strategically positioned as vital nodes in global logistics, face multiple challenges including outdated infrastructure, fragmented regulatory frameworks, and increasing environmental pressures. Drawing on recent data and a multidisciplinary approach, the study argues that energy transition represents a major opportunity to reposition African ports within global value chains. The adoption of renewable energy sources, the development of green corridors, and the strengthening of international partnerships emerge as key levers to foster sustainable competitiveness. The article concludes with policy recommendations to support public-private investment, regulatory reform, and capacity building aimed at accelerating the green transformation of African Atlantic port systems.
