The AJLP-GS Editorial Board is delighted to announce publishing the special issue on the “Women and land policy”. This special issue will serve as a vehicle sharing research findings of the African and global scientific community, acting within the framework of land governance and women. Throughout the issue, we provide researchers with a gate to disseminate their findings, share their discoveries, and contribute to the collective body of knowledge we are developing in Africa. The following topics related to land governance and gender are presented, but not limited to:

    • Land use planning and adaptation and mitigation strategies taking into account gender perspectives.
    • Land rights, ownership and governance of indigenous lands in the context of gender.
    • Urban planning, resilient infrastructure and sustainable land use in urban areas with a gender dimension.
    • Land degradation, desertification, pastoralism and gender-sensitive approaches to sustainability.

  • Special issue on Climate change and land governance
    Vol. 7 No. 6 (2024)

As part of measures to showcase research work conducted by researchers and NELGA members in Africa, the SLGA project is considering a special issue on land governance and climate change in the African Journal on Land Policy & Geospatial Sciences (AJLP&GS). Climate change is one of the most pressing global challenges of our time, with far-reaching consequences on ecosystems, societies, and economies. Land plays a crucial role in climate change since a rise in land degradation contributes to greenhouse gas emissions. Land is both a source and a sink of the CO2 due to both anthropogenic and natural drivers, making it hard to separate land issues from climate change. The nexus between land governance and climate change is critical to address the complex and interrelated issues arising from the use, management, and protection of land resources. Land governance and climate change are closely linked, as an increase in emissions can cause drastic changes to land use patterns. The special issue can help to inform land management decisions to reduce emissions and maximize resources for adaptation. As climate change progresses, it is increasingly important to ensure that land is managed in a way that is both sustainable and resilient to the impacts of climate change. By integrating climate change considerations into land governance, countries can foster sustainable land management, mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, enhance climate resilience, and promote equitable and sustainable development. This special issue aims to explore the interactions between land governance and climate change, identify challenges and opportunities, and propose innovative solutions for sustainable land management in the context of a changing climate.
