The inhibition of carbon steel corrosion in hydrochloric acid media using 2-[(5-methyl-isoxazol-3-yl)-methyl]-benzimidazole

Corrosion inhibition of carbon steel in hydrochloric acid solution (1M) by 2-[(5-methyl-isoxazol-3-yl)-methyl]-benzimidazole (MMB) has been studied by electrochemical techniques (PDP and EIS). The experimental results showed that compound MMB acted as an efficient inhibitor against the carbon steel corrosion in 1M HCl, and its inhibition efficiency increased progressively with the inhibitor concentration. PDP studies showed that MMB was a mixed type inhibitor. The adsorption of this compound on carbon steel surface in 1M HCl solution followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and the value of the standard free energy of adsorption (ΔGads) is associated to a physisorption and chemisorption.
