TUTORING AND COACHING: A COMBINED TOOL TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF STUDENT SUPPORT IN HIGHER EDUCATION

Zoulal MANSOURI, Youssef MRABET

Résumé

Since the 1970s, Moroccan higher education institutions have witnessed a considerable increase in student enrollment at university. However, student dropout has also soared since then, particularly in open admission faculties. The successive reforms that have been carried out in Moroccan higher education since 1999 have addressed this national issue by implementing and reinforcing tutoring to assist at-risk students in their university experience. The purpose of this paper is to show, through a review of the literature, the limits of the tutoring support. It suggests that tutoring should be combined with other support models such as the coaching developmental model to provide students with a more holistic and effective form of support.
